The Ringers
The Ringers
If one wants to talk about the most amazing groups of musicians currently playing together, at the top of the list is The Ringers, featuring Jimmy Herring, Wayne Krantz, Michael Landau, Gary Novak and Etienne Mbappe
The concept of The Ringers was to bring five guys together, not just to perform as a super-group, but to work together as a unifying artistic force; one in which people put music ahead of their egos to collectively create great music. These five veteran musicians will perform together, featuring new material written exclusively for this band, as well as each individuals' solo material and cover tunes chosen by the players.

Jimmy Herring, as the founding member of The Aquarium Rescue Unit, Project Z and Jazz is Dead (in addition to having played with everyone from The Allman Brothers Band, The Grateful Dead to Phil Lesh and Friends, and Bela Fleck) has made his indelible impact on the music world. He currently serves as the lead guitarist for the very popular American Band, Widespread Panic and released his second solo album, Subject To Change Without Notice.

Wayne Krantz released his tenth album, Howie 61, this past April to glowing critical praise. Krantz has played with Randy Brecker, Leni Stern and Steely Dan, among others. Through a succession of highly lauded solo recordings, Krantz has continuously evolved as an artist by pushing himself in new and exciting directions and is revered for his forward-thinking approach to improvisation.

Michael Landau, the legendary session guitarist from Los Angeles also toured the west coast with Robben Ford (which included band members Jimmy Haslip and Russell Ferrante). At age 19 he joined Boz Scaggs for a world tour and by age of 20 he started doing session work on the recommendation of long time friend Steve Lukather. Session highlights over the years include work with Pink Floyd, Joni Mitchell, BB King, James Taylor, Ray Charles and Rod Stewart.

An amazing drummer, Gary Novak began his career at the young age of 10 playing with his father, famous pianist Larry Novak, in his trio in Chicago. Novak has recorded and/or toured with such musical luminaries as Chick Corea, Alanis Morrisette, Allan Holdsworth, Andrew WK, Michael McDonald, Natalie Cole, David Sandborn, George Benson, and Anita Baker, along with many more.

Bass player Etienne Mbappe is best known for his years with the Zawinul Syndicate. In the 1980ís he was the centerpiece of the jazz fusion band Ultramarine which fused jazz with elements of African and Caribbean influences. Moappe played with Ray Charles on his last album and is currently a member of John McLaughlin's 4th Dimension.
Oli Brown
Oli Brown
Oli has played guitar since the age of 13. The first guitarist to influence him was, of course, Jimi Hendrix.

The Blues initially was a genre of music for him to solo over and he didn’t take the time to really understand its meaning, but, in 2005, when visiting America that all changed.

Carl Gustafson (who had invited him to the States) and the rest of Carl's band Blinddog Smokin', took time out of their busy touring schedule to explain some of the history and meaning of the Blues.
Whilst staying with Carl, Oli also learnt about stage performance, soloing , timing, which have proved to become a major part of Oli's live gigs.

Oli has had the pleasure of playing alongside Joe Bonamassa, Walter Trout, Robben Ford, Devon Allman and many other great artists, including the legendary Godfather of British Blues John Mayall !

Oli has a number of guitarists that have influenced his playing, far too many to name them all, but they include Chris Cain, Albert Collins, Freddie King, B.B. King, Albert King, Hollywood Fats, Hendrix, Stevie Ray etc the list goes on. Oli's other musical influences include Tom Waits, Jon Cleary, Jonny Lang, The Big Pill and Psychedelic Zombies.
This is a full-time career for Oli and his education now comes from life on the road and the people he meets along the way.
